· Public Speaking,Storytelling,Presentations,Blogging,James Clear

"Atomic Habits" is a book everyone should read if they want to improve their lives in small, doable steps. The author, James Clear, has a beautiful, engaging and easy to read and use newsletter using a 3-2-1 format.

See How James Runs His 3-2-1 Style

Many of Clear’s newsletters use this 3-2-1 style. Although they read more as blogs, whatever you call them, they can easily become a habit-forming read. As a speaker and writer, it is an easy way for you to get started organizing your thoughts. Here is an example from James:

3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
“In the long run, the way you treat your time is the way others treat it too.”
II.
“A brief guide to leadership:
Always know the answer to, “What are we optimizing for?”
Recruit. Recruit. Recruit.
Never ask someone to do something you aren’t willing to do yourself.
Give away the credit. Take the blame.”
III.
“The trajectory of your life bends in the direction of your habits.”

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS
I.

Brene Brown on when to value feedback:
“If you’re not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I’m not interested in your feedback. If you have constructive feedback you want to give me, I want it… But if you’re in the cheap seats, not putting yourself on the line, and just talking about how I can do it better, I’m in no way interested in your feedback.”

II.
Ed Catmull, cofounder of Pixar, on how they make great movies:
“Initially, the films we put together, they're a mess. It's like everything else in life—the first time you do it, it's a mess. Sometimes it's labeled … “a failure” … but that's not even the right word to use. It's just like, you get the first one out, you learn from it, and the only failure is if you don't learn from it, if you don't progress.”

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

Aim at your target. Its easy to dream, to set goals, to want something in your life. The trick to achieving them? Aim for them. Take some action every day. Small movements add up and you’ll get closer, you’ll get clearer and you’ll get there.

II.

I find my clarity in life from trying different things. By moving in some direction, I find out if that is or isn’t the way I want to go. If I don’t move, I might never know which way is right for me.

III.

Each of us is unique. We have stories to share - stories that can effect the lives of others. Pull them up, no matter how painful, and write them down. Can you find a way to share them? Doing so may heal or even prevent that pain in another.
